Do you stop breathing during sleep cycle or feel fatigue when you wake up?
POLYSOMNOGRAPHY / SLEEP APNEA SCREENING / CPAP
Sleep studies encompass various diagnostic tests aimed at evaluating sleep patterns and disorders. Specific polysomnography (PSG) involves monitoring physiological parameters during sleep, including brain waves, eye movements, muscle activity, heart rhythm, and breathing patterns. It helps diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and restless legs syndrome. Sleep apnea screening typically involves overnight monitoring to detect pauses in breathing and abnormal airflow patterns during sleep, which are indicative of obstructive or central sleep apnea.
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy may be recommended for patients diagnosed with sleep apnea, involving the use of a device to maintain an open airway during sleep. Patients may undergo sleep studies if they experience symptoms such as loud snoring, choking or gasping during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, or if they have risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, or a family history of sleep disorders.
